How to Check Coolant Levels

When To Change Coolant

You do not need to open the radiator cap to check for the levels. Instead, you can check the markings on the side of the coolant reservoir, where if the liquid reaches the full marking line, you are good to drive on your High Point drive. However, if it is not full, then you can remove the radiator cap and add a coolant or a 50/50 mix of coolant and water. Read the bottle to see if it is a premixed brand. You should also check the radiator hose for any leaks or damages. Coolant levels deplete over time, so it is good to check it every three to six months. If the liquid is blue, green, yellow, or red, you are good to go. If the liquid is brown or colorless, flush the system and replace the fluid. 

Note: If you’re adding more liquid to the cooling system, be sure the engine has cooled. Also, don’t attempt to open the radiator cap while the engine is hot.
